Over the past few months, we have added several features that make StoryHunt easier to use for visitors and more valuable for partners. Here is the short version of what is new.

Take StoryHunt tours offline

Visitors can now download any published StoryHunt tour before setting out. The download includes audio, images and the essential tour content, so the experience continues without a constant internet connection.

This is useful for international visitors without mobile data and in places with unreliable coverage. Offline tours work in the StoryHunt apps for iOS and Android, with no extra setup required from creators.

Visitors simply download the tour while online. GPS continues to work offline. If the tour is updated later, they need to reconnect and refresh the download to receive the latest version.

German tour pages and instructions

Selected parts of storyhunt.io are now available in German, including tour pages and the instructions visitors need to get started.

Partners can link from their German website straight to the matching German StoryHunt page. This gives German-speaking visitors a clearer journey from discovering a tour to starting it.

We are rolling out the German version gradually, so some parts of the website are still in English.

Meet StoryHunt Monuments

StoryHunt Monuments connects physical monuments and installations with the stories behind them.

A visitor scans a marker at the location. The story opens in the StoryHunt app when it is installed, or directly in the browser when it is not. The experience also detects the visitor’s language automatically.

For municipalities, museums, destination organisations and cultural institutions, this is a simple way to turn a physical site into a richer experience. Instead of only seeing a monument, visitors can meet the people, events and ideas that give it meaning.

Discover nearby stories

Visitors can choose to receive a notification when they move close to a relevant StoryHunt story. The feature helps people notice interesting places around them, even when they were not actively searching.

Notifications are optional and can be switched off at any time. For destinations and cultural organisations, they create a new way to share local content at the right place and moment.

Better navigation and route planning

We have improved navigation and route planning in the StoryHunt app. Most of the work happened behind the scenes, so there is no new interface to learn—just clearer and more reliable guidance between tour stops.

Stories in more than 170 languages

Individual StoryHunt stories can now be accessed in more than 170 languages.

If a requested language is not already available, StoryHunt translates the story on demand. The first translation usually takes 10–20 seconds and is then saved for future visitors.

This currently applies to story content, not the app interface. More interface languages are planned.

Complete routes still need to be translated and managed in StoryHunt Creator. This gives creators control of the full tour while making individual stories available to a much wider audience.

Frequently asked questions

Do visitors need internet to use a StoryHunt tour?

Internet is needed to download a tour. After that, its audio, images and essential content are available in the iOS or Android app without a continuous connection.

Does GPS work offline?

Yes. A phone can determine its location with GPS without mobile data, so visitors can follow a downloaded tour offline.

Can every published tour be downloaded?

Yes. All published tours are available offline, and creators do not need to enable the feature.

What if a downloaded tour is updated?

The visitor needs to reconnect and refresh the download to get the latest version.

Is the entire StoryHunt website available in German?

Not yet. German currently covers selected pages, including tour pages and the instructions needed to start a tour.

Can partners link directly to a German tour page?

Yes. A German website can link directly to the German version of the relevant StoryHunt tour page.

Is the StoryHunt app required for a Monument story?

No. The story opens in the app when it is installed and in the visitor’s browser when it is not.

How does a Monument choose a language?

The experience detects the visitor’s language automatically and serves the matching version.

Do nearby-story notifications require permission?

Yes. Visitors choose whether to enable them and can switch them off at any time.

Do the 170+ languages include the app interface?

Not yet. They currently apply to stories. More interface languages are planned.

What happens when a story has not been translated?

StoryHunt creates the translation on demand. It usually takes 10–20 seconds the first time and is then saved for future visitors.

Are complete tours translated automatically?

No. Complete routes still need to be translated in StoryHunt Creator. On-demand translation applies to individual stories.

What comes next?

All these updates support the same goal: making local stories easier to discover and enjoy, regardless of language, connectivity or preferred way of exploring.

Have a question, idea or feature request? We would love to hear it. We look forward to continuing the work together and finding new ways to bring stories and places to life.
