Join Stine Helweg on an audio walk through Vestre Cemetery and learn about the many fascinating people buried here.
Test your knowledge and quiz along the way – fun with groups!
Vestre Cemetery is one of the city's largest green oases and Denmark's largest cemetery. Here you will find a unique landscape where history, nature, and everyday life merge. Today, the cemetery is used both as an active burial site and as a recreational area where Copenhageners walk, cycle, and seek tranquility among trees, paths, and streams.
On this tour, you will move through more than 150 years of history. You will hear stories about people who have left their mark on Denmark – from politicians and artists to scientists and pioneers. Along the way, you will visit a number of special burial sites and areas, including mausoleums, the honorary burial site by "The Red Sea," and more unconventional burial forms like The Stone Mound.
The audio walk is created and narrated by Stine Helweg, a cultural communicator at Copenhagen Cemeteries, and provides a lively insight into both individual life stories and the cemetery's development from a pauper's cemetery to a modern urban space.
