TLDR: The Bronx coffee scene has evolved beyond corner bodegas. You'll find Puerto Rican farm-to-cup roasts, authentic Italian espresso bars, hip-hop inspired cafes, and cozy neighborhood spots worth crossing the bridge for.

I'll be honest: the Bronx wasn't my first thought when hunting for great coffee in New York. But after spending time exploring the borough's neighborhoods, I discovered a coffee culture that reflects everything special about this place.

These aren't trendy Manhattan outposts or Brooklyn hipster hangouts. They're community spots run by people who genuinely care about their craft and their customers. Here are seven coffee shops that changed how I think about Bronx coffee.

1. 787 Coffee

787 Coffee is among the best coffee in the Bronx

787 Coffee at 2430 Third Avenue brings something truly unique to the Bronx. They grow their own coffee on their farm in Maricao, Puerto Rico, and ship it fresh every two weeks.

The coquito latte is the signature drink, and it tastes like the holidays in a cup. The space has tropical greenery and a welcoming vibe that makes remote work feel less like a chore.

Did You Know? 787 is Puerto Rico's area code, and the shop now has over 25 locations across New York, all serving beans from their single farm.

2. Boogie Down Grind Cafe

Boogie Down Grind Cafe on Hunts Point Avenue is more than a coffee shop. Owner Majora Carter, a lifelong Hunts Point resident, built this space to give her neighborhood something special.

The menu has hip-hop inspired names, nothing costs over $8, and the cafe hosts open mic nights and community events. It's decorated with local art and feels like walking into someone's very cool living room.

Did You Know? Boogie Down Grind received a grant from Beyonce's BeyGOOD foundation to build an outdoor space designed to look like a NYC subway car.

3. La Casa del Caffe

La Casa del Caffe at 1036 Morris Park Avenue is the real deal. Owner Ana Agovino has been pulling espresso shots for over two decades, and it shows. The cappuccino with cinnamon is the move here.

It's a tiny spot with an old-school Italian cafe feel, and regulars swear it rivals anything you'd find in Rome. Cash only, so come prepared.

Did You Know? La Casa del Caffe has been operating in Morris Park for over 28 years, making it one of the longest-running independent coffee spots in the borough.

4. Prince Coffee House

Prince Coffee House on Arthur Avenue brings Turkish-inspired charm to the Bronx's Little Italy. The space is large with plenty of natural light, and they serve European pastries alongside strong Turkish coffee. Tiramisu, crepes, and cakes fill the display case.

It's a solid spot for getting work done during weekday mornings, though weekends can get loud with the Arthur Avenue crowds.

Did You Know? Arthur Avenue, often called the real Little Italy, has been a center of Italian-American culture since the 1840s.

If you're planning to explore the Bronx's diverse neighborhoods beyond just coffee, StoryHunt's Personal Tour Guide can help you build a custom audio walk connecting Arthur Avenue's Italian heritage with other borough highlights.

5. Finjan

Finjan wins this category hands down. The Middle Eastern-inspired cafe has a menu I couldn't fully identify on my first visit, but the staff patiently explained everything. The Biscoff kunafa paired with their specialty coffee is worth the trip alone.

The interior is beautifully designed, the owners are clearly proud of what they've built, and it photographs well if that matters to you.

Did You Know? A finjan is a traditional Middle Eastern coffee pot used to brew Turkish and Arabic coffee, giving the cafe its name.

6. The Way Cafe

The Way Cafe at 1015 Castle Hill Avenue combines craft coffee with fresh, healthy food. The menu includes paninis, salads, smoothies, and specialty coffee drinks.

It's the kind of place that works whether you need a quick caffeine fix or want to sit down for an actual meal. Hours are Tuesday through Friday 7am-4pm, Saturdays 8am-3pm, so plan accordingly.

Did You Know? Castle Hill is named after a large estate that stood in the area during the 18th century, long before the neighborhood developed.

7. Clipper Coffee

Clipper Coffee at 274 City Island Avenue has been recognized as the best coffee house in the Bronx, and the setting alone makes it worth the trip. City Island feels like a New England fishing village somehow ended up in New York City.

The cafe is cozy, the coffee is consistently good, and it pairs perfectly with walking around this quirky 1.5-mile island afterward.

Did You Know? City Island has a boat-building history dating back to the 1800s and produced several America's Cup racing yachts.
